Christian Living Lifestyle … Our Call

As stated in “Actions of INTENTIONAL DISCIPLESHIP”, our call is to know the reality of Galatians 2:20 “I AM crucified, nevertheless I live.”

As disciples of Christ, we ARE called …

*"out of darkness into his marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9).

*Our calling is identified as "the heavenly calling" (Hebrews 3:1),

*&, in Philippians 3:14, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

*& we are told that “the called” to belong to Jesus (Romans 1:6)

*&, that we “are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

There’s much in Scripture about our calling. The calling is God's work & prerogative. There IS however, clearly another call on our life:

"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith you are called." (Eph 4:1)

WE are expected to cooperate WITH the work of the Spirit and …
add to our faith "virtue, & knowledge, & temperance, & patience, & godliness, & brotherly kindness, & charity" (2 Peter 1:5-7).

WE also are directed, by Peter … virtually commanded … to "give diligence to make your calling & election sure" (2 Peter 1:10).

We have been called by God to become one of His chosen, the purpose for which is to be different, holy … peculiar!!! Our lifestyle should be centered around the fact that "we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works!!!" (Ephesians 2:10).

Titus: 2:
KJV 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. 15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority.

NIV 14 … eager to do what is good

2 Peter 3: 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

Now, it is critical that we clarify the functioning & working out of this unique paradigm … this paradox in which we are called to live.

IF we simply try to crank out the good works by our self-effort we will prove to be as fruitless as we ever were, when we lived & struggled in the experience of our own fleshy efforts, revealed in Romans 7.

Instead, we desire to walk in this LIFE, making every effort, like this:

2 Cor 3: 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

& HOW do we move into that experience? Matthew 6:6

IF we will incorporate THAT life into our lifestyle, using the eyes of our heart of our spirit, we can then cultivate our beholding of the Lord with songs, with the Word, and with prayer.

In order to experience this “glory to glory” … as a LIFESTYLE … we MUST walk as Jesus walked, rearranging our hearts & our schedules to insure that we are spending before the throne of the GOD. ONLY from that quiet place will we find the peaceful fruitfulness of the Spirit life revealed to us in our times of praying & singing & reading His Word.

Lastly, in our desire to cooperate w/ the work of the Spirit in our lives, let us remember the work of the blood of Jesus!!!

Around the throne, in the book of Revelation, we see the work of the “blood of the eternal covenant” (Heb 13:20) sung about in praise … for there is POWER IN THE BLOOD: Rev 5:8-14, 7:9-14

<![CDATA[CHRIST is LIFE!!!]]>Fri, 22 Mar 2013 12:06:19 GMThttp://www.household-of-faith.org/household-of-faith-blog/christ-is-lifeThe life of Christ is in us and wants to be expressed through us!!!
He desires to get OUT and go to the world through us!!!
<![CDATA[The Umbrella of Discipleship]]>Thu, 14 Mar 2013 22:29:45 GMThttp://www.household-of-faith.org/household-of-faith-blog/the-umbrella-of-this-life]]><![CDATA[Intentional Discipleship]]>Tue, 26 Feb 2013 22:40:51 GMThttp://www.household-of-faith.org/household-of-faith-blog/intentional-discipleship

What does it mean to you to be Christ’s disciple?

Here is the key.

“For me to live is Christ."
That is the umbrella that covers it ALL.

If for me to live is my job or how people think about me or to have plenty of money or ANYTHING BUT CHRIST then I don’t understand Christ!!! And I need to humble myself and fall on my knees before Him.

Under this umbrella are 5 points that will bring into focus what it means to be a disciple of Christ.

1. Meditate and memorize scripture

Part of hearing the Word of the LOR is UNDERSTANDING that the Word of the Lord is the Spirit talking to our hearts. It’s more than just the book!!! We need both; the Logos of the book AND the Logos of the Spirit. There were NO books around for the first >300 years and the church grew like crazy. On a GOOD day they got to hear the scripture read. Mostly they had only the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

2. Understand our gifting; how does that work of reconciliation work out in our lives?

The written Word IS God’s word. The problem is that we have made this book the altar and it IS NOT. The altar is the Spirit coming to my heart and redeeming me! It is that work of reconciliation! He has reconciled us to Himself AND given us the commission to give that message to others!!!

The realization that I have a calling in my life to share this ministry of reconciliation of lost hearts to HIS heart is vital. How does He want to use my gifts to do that? Every single altar in my life has been built on “I am nothing but a man in need”. The Lord wants a humble and contrite heart!!!

Gathering together as the body will help us begin to understand what our giftings are and how God wishes to use those gifts to work out that ministry of reconciliation in our lives. ASLAN’s SONG “Home Fellowship” is a powerful format in helping you understand who YOU are in the Body of Christ.

3. Your work needs to be your worship

“When WE consider our ‘work’, whatever it may be, to be what GOD calls it to be … only THEN will we understand that it is a Holy calling from the LORD. Our work is a vital part of our worship to the God Who has set us apart as His emissaries: OUR WORK IS WORSHIP!!!”

Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

4. Praise throughout your day!

Are we praising throughout our day … Offering up that sacrifice of praise when we just flat out don’t FEEL like it is a sacrifice of PRAISE?

As believers EACH of us has got to be people who walk with hearts FULL of thanksgiving and praise! We’ve GOT to be thankful in ALL things!!! Praying and praising in ALL things. Incorporate the sacrifice of praise … especially if you are not happy with where you are spiritually. Begin to do THIS as a regular part of your life!!!

Hebrews 13:15. “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name”

If we aren’t giving out the fruit that calls upon His name we are missing an ESSENTIAL part that is gonna put all this together moment by moment.

5. Listen and be obedient even when it’s uncomfortable.

Be attentive and listen. It’s often easy to say to yourself “oh, that isn’t really God, that’s just me”. Don’t talk yourself out of an act of obedience!!! Acts of obedience … steps of faith … open your eyes and ears of faith to recognize when He is speaking to you.

Part of the training process is listening to the Hummingbird! Realize there IS training involved!!! That is why it is SO important we have discipleship in our life and also a time where we are meeting as the body! In discipleship we are being fed; when we meet as the body everybody shares what God gave to them and everybody enjoys everybody’s spiritual food!

(Go here to learn about that)

Listen to the Hummingbird
The last thing … which is the first thing … ties into everything.

Philippians 1:21a. “For to me, to live is Christ“

What is our purpose in living?? Fruitful labor for the kingdom!!! Otherwise we are like children building a sandcastle at low tide. How silly and shortsighted.

Where are we building?
We are building on eternal ground (2 Cor 4:18).

What are we building with?
We are using the tools that He has given us to encourage and to build each other up.

(1 Cor 12:7)
We are building with eternal materials of silver, gold and precious stones

(1Cor 3:12-15)

Matthew 6:35 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.”
That brings everything into perspective!!!

The very heart of being a disciple IS THIS…

“For me to live is CHRIST…”

<![CDATA[Do you hear the hummingbird?]]>Wed, 17 Oct 2012 02:27:01 GMThttp://www.household-of-faith.org/household-of-faith-blog/are-our-hearts-open Today started with the group talking about Jay and Karen’s house being broken into and their Godly response to the event.

Jay shared how this was not the first time someone they have helped has turned around and stolen from them. He said when he was first saved and read how Jesus said “When you have done it to the least of my brothers you have done it to me” (Matthew 25:40) So, as a young man, Jay’s desire was to help Jesus!!! Through helping people in different circumstances he had the opportunity to speak to many of them about the truth of God!
God allows things to happen. Jay shared Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

WHY does God allow these things to happen? 2 Cor 1:8,9…. SO THAT we will learn to rely on Him who raises the dead!!! He wants us to trust Him in the Spirit! If we do, our rewards are more than we can imagine!!! (Romans 8:18) If we don’t? We lose even the rewards which we had ... stolen by nobody but ourselves. The Father promised an act of OBEDIENCE would bring the rewards. The enemy is out to deceive us into believing God can’t be trusted and we must take matters into our own hands ... the very same lie he fed Eve in the garden!!!

The enemy tries to cause discouragement and fear to keep us from accessing the Spirit and keep us downcast! Over ONE HUNDRED TIMES the bible tells us “do not be dismayed, afraid, disheartened….” Jerk your hands OUT of the hands of discouragement and fear, don’t even let them touch you!!! When you feel a twinge of fear or discouragement, raise your hands!!! Say “I don’t understand LORD, but I don’t have to!!! YOU know the beginning from the end so why do I worry about this, you have it covered! My hands are raised in sacrifice to you. My heart is opened up to you. THAT is what this is all about. I am gonna make a resolution in my heart – my hands, my heart, my life are yours.”

Jay went on to share about watching the movie on the life of Ray Charles, who went blind as a child and learned to function in the everyday world with no cane, no dog, no outward help. Ray learned to listen … carefully … to the world around him. He would hear things that virtually everybody else missed. What an amazing example of how WE are to listen to the Spirit!

Ray takes his soon to be bride to a bustling restaurant after church one day. Amidst the chaos of all the conversation by the other patrons he asks her “Can you hear the hummingbird?”. She looks at him in utter astonishment. What a scene! Just put yourself there!!! He then gently instructs her on how to hear … Watch the first 45 seconds of this video to see it for yourself.

We need to be as sensitive to the voice of the Spirit in our lives during the hubbub and chaos of our daily lives. 1 John 2:20 and 27 both talk about the anointing that is ours in the Spirit when we are Christ’s. This anointing is the Spirit speaking to YOU; that is the hummingbird outside the window that we must learn to listen for.

<![CDATA[Are we listening?]]>Tue, 02 Oct 2012 22:08:48 GMThttp://www.household-of-faith.org/household-of-faith-blog/are-we-listening1

How do we respond when hard times come our way? Where do we turn when suffering comes in to our life? Just like we know the hot weather we’ve been having is coming to an end, so does our suffering. Everybody experiences suffering in their life, but we must remember it is just temporary.

Romans 8:18
“I know that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory which will be revealed in us”.

Suffering is for an end result! In 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 we are taught to not look at that which is seen but that which is unseen. That which is seen is temporary but that which is unseen is eternal.

The more we listen to the Spirit, the more we see the Lord moving around us. Just last week a young couple came to know Jesus in our home, as did another couple the previous week. There are so many stories that could be shared of the ministry out of our home and the time we spend walking at the mall. All because we are prayerfully listening to the Holy Spirit!

Isaiah 30:19b-21
“How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. 20 Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

What promises from God! He WILL hear us! He WILL answer us.

He nourishes us with the bread of affliction and the water of adversity – this is how we are trained! Tough things are for a purpose.

2 Corinthians 1:8-9
“9 Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead”.

There are amazing results to being nourished with “the bread of adversity and the water of affliction.” God promises that “our teachers will be hidden no more; with our own eyes we will see them!”

Let me share a good story about that. I had a broken truck in my driveway that needed moving. As I watched from the doorway, 3 strong men trying to push it just couldn’t budge it. I felt the Spirit saying to go out and help, but having a bum leg I knew I wasn’t going to do much good. I walked out and as soon as I put my hand on the truck – it moved! I instantly “saw my teachers”. I saw that we are ALL members of the body of Christ. Even one who is seemingly insignificant is actually of great importance to the Body of Christ and may make all the difference in whether the tasks the LORD is calling us to will be completed or not!

Hear the whole teaching here:

Spiritual DNA is just like natural DNA in this way: At your spiritual birth you were given a spiritual DNA that you didn’t have before you were born again, and just like your physical abilities need exercise to grow in strength, so do your spiritual gifts! Imagine for a moment a nine year old boy. If you were to ask this boy what he was good at, wouldn’t you expect him to be able to tell you? He would probably get quite animated telling you all about his favorite video game or how he is so good on his bmx bike. It’s quite likely he would keep talking about it until you found a way to excuse yourself!

Now, imagine asking that same boy what he was good at and he simply shrugs, looks up at you and says “I dunno. Not sure if I’m really good at anything.” Who’s at fault here, the boy or his parents? Clearly his parents! They have not helped this child find his strengths and encouraged him to spend time enjoying them, using them, getting good at them! It is much the same with spiritual gifts in the church today. Walk into most any church in this country – and I mean COUNTRY, not county or state – and ask the question “what are your spiritual gifts….what spiritual gifts are you good at?” 95% to 98% will answer ‘I don’t know”. Tell me that is not a travesty against the body of Christ!!!!!

The members of the Body of Christ should be answering with animation and excitement… “Let me TELL you what God has been teaching me to do!! He’s given me this gift and this gift, and this is the ministry He has shown me to use it in, and this is how He is showing me to use it each week!! Wow! PRAISE GOD!” They just wouldn’t want to stop sharing their excitement about what God is doing in their lives and how God is using them! THAT is the way it is SUPPOSED to be when we listen to the LORD!

All of this ties in to 2 Corinthians 10:4, 5.
4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Karen shared how the Lord has been showing her things about strongholds and about holding thoughts captive in her mind. She shared some thoughts from the book, Praying Gods Word, and how if left un-captured thoughts can turn from fairly small issues to insurmountable mountains.

We are to hold thoughts captive for the purpose of being OBEDIENT to CHRIST! We can focus on the things of God, not on those things trying to build themselves up in our minds. It IS within our power, as we surrender our lives to the Holy Spirit! If we allow our thoughts to wander wherever they wish to go we cannot hear GOD’S voice. This can make prayer very difficult. Holding our thoughts captive can change our prayer life. We become so much more focused on our prayers and time with God.

Do not let the noise of the world distract us from being able to listen to the voice of the Lord. That is what this morning has been all about! Spend time meditating; ask the Lord to strengthen you in all these areas!
